In addition to swim lessons, aquatic courses that focus on specific skills like Fundamentals of Diving, Junior Lifeguarding, Swim Team skills, or Fitness Swimming are available for this age group. Pools must have a minimum depth of 6 feet for these courses. Participants must be able to swim 50 yards while using freestyle and/or backstroke to enroll in specialty variants. The Junior Lifeguard curriculum covers aquatic emergency prevention, recognition, basic assists, and water safety in a 3-hour course. Open to ages 9 to 13 years, it's a great opportunity to develop essential skills in a supportive environment. Students must demonstrate the following prerequisite skills: swim 25 yards continuously and tread water for 30 seconds. This is not a certification course, this is a group lesson. minimum of 3 participants with a maximum of 10 participants

Complete the requirements for the Swimming Merit Badge. This is not a swim lesson. Students must be able to swim continuously for 150 yards in a strong manner using each of the following strokes in any order; front crawl or trudgen (25 yards); back crawl (25 yards); sidestroke (25 yards); breaststroke (25 yards); and elementary backstroke (50 yards). If student is unable to complete the swim assessment, private lessons are suggested prior to enrollment of course.
