"From the moment I started working in a salon, I fell in love with the profession. It's not just about the treatments, but about the entire experience you offer people," explains Maureen. But over the years, something increasingly began to itch: she wanted to start her own business. She says, “Once I found a suitable salon location last year, I took the plunge without hesitation. It took off immediately and it's still going super well!”. Maureen has managed to turn her hobby into her job, where she can share her passion and vision with her clients daily.

Within her network, Maureen is known for her expertise and dedication, which resulted in rapid growth mainly driven by word-of-mouth. Maureen explains that her first customers mainly came from her own network. "My first client was a friend from yoga. After that, the news spread quickly. I strongly believe in the power of personal connections. People keep coming back because of me, how I work as a wellness professional, and who I am as a person.” Besides personal recommendations, Maureen wants marketing through social media to play a larger role in the business strategy of ‘Your Skin By Maureen'. "I am active on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, where I promote my services by sharing the link to my Vev page and interacting with my clients. In the future, I want to get even more out of this," says Maureen.

The Role of Vev
The switch to using Vev came at a critical moment when the volume of requests almost overwhelmed Maureen. "I received so many messages and requests through different channels that I began to lose track. You have to keep innovating to be attractive to your customers, people are sensitive to that," she says. Maureen follows various social media accounts, especially those of skin therapists, Korean skin care, and American skin care, which are valuable resources for keeping up with all the new developments in the market. In addition, her local wellness community offers a great opportunity to share experiences and ideas with other professionals. She regularly contacts these colleagues and meets up with them. Things are going very well with ‘Your Skin By Maureen’, perhaps too well: there is now a waiting time of six weeks. Therefore, Maureen wants to open a second location, where naturally good and pleasant staff must also be recruited. The community can also be valuable here.

Maureen also has valuable insights for new entrepreneurs: "The biggest lesson I have learned is that as an entrepreneur, you never really 'switch off'. The door never really closes, to stay balanced you should not respond to messages 24/7 anymore. That took me some time getting used to. It is crucial to set boundaries for your own well-being. And for those who are hesitant to start, my advice is simple: “Who dares wins, you just have to do it. It's tough in the beginning, but it's definitely worth it, it's the best decision I ever made."
